Frets seem to be the weak spot, though, those seem to be hit and miss.
I own two and both guitars are incredibly well built given the price. Harley Bentons give you amazing bang for the buck. If you are on the market for a chibson, consider Harley Benton. Sure I will have to work on the frets a bit, I have already cleaned it up, and I’m on my way to buy some steel wool to make some polishing, but it has such a low action and screams so well, that usability wise, it’s hard to believe the price. So, overall I am really happy with the purchase. Rolling down the volume knob on the mid pickup let’s you have neck or bridge alone, but I like the fullness that a bit of the mid pickup adds. It has 3 individual volume knobs, and the 3-way switch lets you pic bridge + mid, all three, and middle + neck. So, the bridge is a tuneomatic style bridge, feels solid, and the pots are a bit stiff but also work fantastic, no scratchy sounds. I play through a fender mustang I v2 and it has better response to distorsion than my epiphone explorer with stock pickups (next project will be upgrading those).
They are Roswell alnico v and dude, this thing handles distorsión beautifully. Now let’s have a look on the electronics: the pickups have impressed me. The nut needs to be replaced but it’s well cut although has some cosmetic issues.
Also the inlays are plastic mother of pearl lookalikes. Everything well leveled but the frets need polishing, they are scratchy as hell. So for one side it was astonishing, but the fretboard needed cleaning badly.
The first thing I notice when I open the guitar box is that it has a fucking low nonbuzzing action, and an ugly ass fretboard. I live in Germany, close to the warehouse, so the order took 3 days in delivery which, considering the dates we are on is impressive. That means: some cosmetic issues, underwhelming pickups, cheap feeling knobs. So I fancied a three humbucker sg, but I am far from budget, saw this beauty and pulled the trigger, expecting something on the lines of my st copy (which is the cheapest guitar Harley Benton offers). It costs less than 160€, please keep in mind the price during this post. So, this is my second Harley Benton guitar.
